Birth is a profound rite of passage, and initiation to yourself as a woman, and mother.
I trust you to know what’s best for you and your baby.
You’re the expert.
I trust that birth is a mystery.
I will help you prepare for the unexpected and unknowable. The only thing certain about birth is that it’s an uncertain ride, and we will lean into trusting that unknown mystery of birth, together.
I see you, and, I feel you.
While only you can be the one to “cross the hot coals” it’s important for you to have the right support so you’re able to confidently surpass your birthing threshold, and embody your birthing bliss. I hold the space for you to do that.
You’re unique, so we will identify the specific elements of support you need to optimise your birthing potential.
I will walk beside you to bring clarity, excitement, lightness, reassurance, evidence-based information, and 100% unwavering support as you traverse the path to your birth.
I hold space for you to remember and tune into your body’s ancient and innate birthing wisdom.
I’m a birth keeper who can balance the sacred and spiritual nature of birth with the science and evidence. This is intuition and instinct harmonising with intellect.
My previous studies at university in Science, Psychology and Law provide a practical framework for addressing the logical considerations of planning for birth in a medical system. My more recent training in energy work, kinesiology, sacred birth doula training, and Birthing From Within, connects you to your inner realms
I will support you to address and unravel any subconscious limiting beliefs or fears, generational family patterns, negative conditioning/programming or any other emotional or energetic obstacles between you and the birth you desire.
My training in prenatal yoga gives you practical and simple tools, for active birth, and breathing.
We will also get clear on your birth intentions and birth planning.
Thinking about hiring me as your Doula?
Here are some frequently asked questions that can help you make that decision.
Why hire me?
I am an advocate for you remembering that you have all you need within for your birth and postnatal journey. You’re the expert.
I’ll support you to access your instinct and inner knowing as your compass so that you have ownership over your experience. I can provide you with current evidence-based information to support your decision-making during pregnancy, birth, and postnatally.
When you work with me, we unpack the beliefs, conditioning and acculturation you have assimilated about birth, we up-level the programs lodged in your subconscious and deconstruct your fears.
The inner work on your journey is a process of exploring who you are, your history, your unconscious, your beliefs, attitudes, perceptions, biases and will probably be a journey of undoing and unlearning what you perceive and understand about birth, as much as it involves learning about birth and remembering your power and sovereignty as a woman.
Be prepared to question everything, to shed the shackles of societal expectations, and your lifelong domestication and conditioning. You’ll unplug from the prevailing empty, oppressive, disembodied indoctrination and story of birth sold to the masses. Expect to return to your wildest most womanly self.
This is a journey of REMEMBERING what you already know.
What is your responsibility when hiring a doula?
Your responsibility is to say yes to getting uncomfortable, confronting your fears, excavating your history and beliefs, and exploring your inner world to see how this might influence your experience during these childbearing phases. I can’t do the work for you. I can guide you, but when you hire me, you should expect to be the one doing the heavy lifting, this is your journey.
I am the Sherpa, or the guide, while you do the work.
What are some of the things you'll do as a doula?
I provide you with emotional support. I offer you signposts to explore your inner realms. I hold the torch and the space for you to see your blindspots and light the way on your path. I don’t know what your path is, or where it is going, because it’s yours. I don’t know what the dragons are on your path. But together we will walk your path so that you are centred and you have ownership of your experience.
What won't you do as my doula?
I don’t do medical things. I am not trained to offer medical care.
I don’t guarantee outcomes. It’s impossible. Birth teaches us things that we need to learn. I don’t know what your learnings are, but I trust that a birth journey is a gift which transforms our essence, our core.
Do I really need a doula?
“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it”. – Dr. Kennell.
I have unshakeable faith in your ability to birth how nature intended. In saying that, we live in a soup of negativity around birth. Lifelong conditioning usually programs us to believe that birth is dangerous, or unsafe, and a medical event. Unless we have received some other more powerful messages about birth being normal, to override this default, it’s inevitable that we have some unhelpful messages embedded in our consciousness around birthing.
The research unequivocally shows that women have better outcomes when they engage and work continuously with a doula for birth support. If you like statistics, here they are, people who have continuous support during childbirth, experience a:
- 39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean;
- 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth;
- 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief;
- shorter labour, by 41 minutes on average;
- 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score;
- 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience; https://evidencebasedbirth.com/the-evidence-for-doulas/
While these statistics seem to be saying, having a Doula is going to help you avoid interventions, it’s not because of a Doula’s presence necessarily, it’s because of you. I’m not that powerful. It’s because these women (and you), are willing to commit to doing the inner work during pregnancy, and birth. The statistics aren’t to glorify Doula’s. My take on them is that this is more about you, and your choices to own your birth, especially in a birth culture that can dispossess you of ownership. Having a Doula can absolutely help that, and while the Doula may be focused as the central person in these promising outcomes, the positive implications of these statistics can only be attributed to the women who had the births – not the Doula. She took control, she got educated, she learned to use her voice and advocate for herself, she became the author of her birth story and a Doula held space for her to make that a reality.
You get one chance to birth your baby. This is a profound transformation – an experience that sets the foundation for you as a mother and your baby’s life.
“Clancy was my doula but I probably should say our family’s doula. It wasn’t just me, it was also my hubby and my 2 year old daughter. She was there for all of us with her calm presence every time.
Firstly I want to say, without Clancy I wouldn’t have my amazing beautiful and empowering home birth. She was the one who introduced me with homebirth midwives. I will be forever thankful for that to you, Clancy!
Yoga, meditation, mother ceremonies, essential oils- all these beautiful things we did with Clancy’s expertise, she has a natural talent and spirituality.
When it was time for important decision-making, she always provided me with the best articles and resources to read. It was very reassuring knowing her good intuition and experience. Having Clancy as a doula was like having a safety net during pregnancy and labour. She is the type of person who spreads good energy and calm vibes, she’s also a savvy woman who knows what it takes to birth your baby naturally and the way you want it.
She is a person to trust easily and she will be ready to go above and beyond to support you because Clancy is born to be a doula.”
